Winter Break Math Packet
To ensure that the concepts learned throughout our 8th Grade year are being retained, the 8th Grade Math teachers put together a "Winter Break Math Packet" (a pink page) for the students to complete over the break. YES, IT IS A GRADE. (They didn't receive homework from me this week, so we can think of it as they're weekly homework page.) Please have the students use their notes or look for resources on my blog. It is due Monday, February 27th (the day we come back from break).
If you have any questions or concerns, I'll be answering all questions over the weekend(s).
Just in case it is lost, a copy is attached to this site
Enjoy the Winter Break!

Unit 3: Classwork-Grade Improvement Opportunity
I hope all is well. As we're starting the 3rd Quarter of our 8th grade year, I want to make sure your student is starting on the right foot. Due to a high amount of failing classwork grades on Volume of Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres -- I will be giving a grade improvement opportunity via USA Test Prep. They're to complete up to TWO of the assignments and the grade(s) will be replaced with the appropriate assignment.

My goal is to make sure that have learned & mastered the standard needed for the course. Please inform your student about this opportunity. Also, inform them to give 100% everyday in class... Many students are coming to class unprepared and unwilling to give at least 70% (hint the "missing grades," "incomplete work," or "low classwork grades"). Math class is not social hour nor play-time; our days are being numbered til the Georgia Milestones, and I/Mrs. Rose wants to make sure every student is prepared as much as possible.

The deadline for the two assignments is January 27th.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Ms. Riggs

Adding and Subtracting Integers
During today's review with Negative Exponents, Mrs. Rose & I saw that there were plenty of students struggling with the INTEGER CONCEPT. Below is a video from Khan Academy about adding and subtracting integers. Have your student review the concept as much as needed. Please let me know if you need any additional practice or support with this concept.

Thank you,

Grade Improvement Opportunity
I hope all is well and that your student and yourself have enjoyed Fall Break. To help improve grades and show mastery of the standard/concept, I have assigned four different group assignments on USA Test Prep that reviews over the past unit (Unit 1: Geometry). If your student completes five assignments from each group, I will average each group's assignments and allow it to replace their lowest classwork and/or homework grade.
Group Assignments
(Choose 5 assignments from a group = 1 classwork/homework grade):
-Unit 1: Geometry (Congruent Figures) - 12 assignments
-Unit 1: Geometry (Effect of Transformations) - 6 assignments
-Unit 1: Geometry (Similar 2-D Figures) - 4 assignments
-Unit 1: Geometry (Use Informal Arguments) - 8 assignments
Assignments will be due/checked on OCTOBER 5TH!
